About

Ayla Fenix makes art in nature surrounded by endless beauty. She is an artist and poet who is inspired by and explores the themes of femininity, tantra, nature, unity, dance of the shadow and light, love, transcendental experiences, elemental magick, and animal totems. She paints using acrylics and is known for her unique style that transgresses and redefines boundaries of contemporary, abstract, and fine art.

In the studio, her tantric experiences and esoteric knowledge activates a sense of timelessness, spirituality, and unapologetic sensuality that the world can resonate with, and her emotive brush strokes play a significant role in illustrating such energy. Ayla is an empath who feels emotions intensely and this is reflected on the canvas through vibrant choice of colours, stark contrasts, and symbolism. Both unity and duality inspires her in everyday life and art.

For Ayla, inner peace is found within, on a mountain, a hillside, or by the ocean. She is passionate about yoga and this echoes in most of her creations. Ayla’s art is inspired by the unity between the breath and our emotional state. Unity between our mind, body, and soul. Unity between our shadow and light. Unity between human beings and animals.

Ayla started painting when she was a child and is self-taught. She stopped painting for a few years after trying her best to conform to societal expectations but this didn't satisfy her soul. She picked up the brush again after experiencing an out of body experience in 2014 and has been painting everyday since. She believes the present moment is all that we truly have and we should be present with our hearts instead of constantly striving to achieve. Mindfulness is not only a way of life for her but has been a strong healing tool and a source of inspiration. As a mindfulness teacher, Ayla embodies the eight mindfulness attitudes which are non-judgement, patience, letting go, trust, non-striving, acceptance, love, and compassion. When not painting, she can be found teaching mindfulness, dancing, travelling or practicing kundalini yoga under the sun and howling at the moon.

The duality within us and the world is beautiful. Every human embodies the dance of the shadow and light. We can reach heaven by first journeying to the darkest depths of the underworld, metaphorically said, of course. Whether that’s a heartbreak, an intense life experience, or a dark night of the soul… it’s a birthplace for creativity… a portal to a widened perception and an expansion of our hearts… a hidden stairway to heaven.

I believe both divine and dark femininity are beautiful. Although society tries to drift us away from our feminine nature and idealises masculinity, I believe that by embodying our feminine nature without a fear of judgment we are able to express ourselves authentically and tap into heaven on earth. Everything about femininity is perfect… both its divine and dark nature - and this is perhaps my biggest source of inspiration when I paint or write poetry. I believe we can all be vessels for creativity to express her imagination. Words aren’t always needed for self-expression… silence is our safe haven. I explore the depth of the feminine and dance of the shadow and light by creating layer after layer with a mindset of love, allowing the paint to drip and flow like the ocean of the soul.

Art has always been a beautiful escape for me from the downs of life… and in my happiest moments; painting allows me to reach a state of ecstasy. I believe art is sacred. Every art piece is a form of communication between us and our higher selves and a piece of the universal consciousness.
